Hydra Genius from L’Oreal – is it worth it?

loreal hydra genius

Hey everyone, its been a while! So today’s post is all about this new product from L’Oreal, Its called Hydra genius aloe water and is a skin care product that you can use instead of your regular day/night cream.

Hydra genius is described as a liquid care product that locks in moisture for 72 hours for fresh and glowing skin!

I picked this up in boots a couple of weeks ago as it was (and still is) on offer at €8.66 for 70ml of product.

The Hydra Genius liquid care comes in three different variations – normal/dry skin, combination skin and one for sensitive skin. I would class my own skin as fairly normal/a little dry so I went for the normal/dry skin variation .

As you can see the two main ingredients are pure aloe vera sap and hyaluronic acid. The directions suggest you use one pump of product morning and evening either alone or after you have applied your serum.

My experience of the product:

To be honest at first it seemed like a great product, quite a thin runny consistency and it really does dry into your skin so quickly. It actually reminded more of a serum than a moisturiser!

I don’t know if it was the choice of formula I chose but this really just didn’t hit the mark for me. Now skincare is obviously a very subjective matter as what works for me may not work for you and vice versa but I just didn’t find any improvement in the texture of my skin after using it exclusively for the last couple of weeks. As I said it applies well and sinks straight into your skin so handy if you’re rushing in the morning.

I just found my skin didn’t feel as soft after using it in place of my usual day/night cream nor did I notice any improvement in how my skin looked, there was no noticeable brightness.

Overall as a product it is a handy alternative to regular moisturiser, perfect if you are looking for something quick and easy. But for me it just didn’t do as it said on the box so I would not be quick to recommend you rush out and purchase. But again as I said skincare is such a personal thing so it may just work for you – just sadly not for me.

Have you tried this product or something similar? Did you find it good if you did? Please let me know in the comments below…..

If you do fancy giving this a try you can pick it up in your local boots or online here

  1. I did want to try this, but I get what you’re coming from! I’m trying a moisturiser currently where it feels nice enough, but again I don’t see any lasting effects, so I’m not sure if I would want to repurchase it either xx

    Velvet Blush

  2. Ooo a lovely honest review! I’ve seen the hype of people rushing to buy this product but for me personally most L’Oréal skincare that I’ve tried doesn’t HIT the mark for me, I feel like they’re a great brand but for skincare I prefer other items. I suppose it’s good that it sinks into the skin quickly but if it doesn’t seem to make an overall difference then

  3. You’re right, this does look a lot like a serum but sounds very hydrating all the same! It’s a shame it didn’t work for you or improve your skin! xx Great review all the same x

  4. I haven’t tried this one, but I do have Lancôme’s Energie de Vie which looks very similar. I don’t find it enough as a full moisturiser either, but I use it as the essence step in a Korean-style routine. Hyaluronic doesn’t do anything on it’s own, you need to team it with something else so it can retain moisture for you.

  5. I got a sample of this but I also got a sample of a tatcha moisturizer that I’ve fallen head over heels for! I haven’t bought it yet since it’s quite expensive but I plan to! I might give this a pass. Majority of drugstore skincare I’ve tried hasn’t worked for me.
